Acreage Mowing & Slashing
Acreage Mowing & Slashing
Wide-area paddock mowing and slashing for hobby farms and rural properties across the Mornington Peninsula. The right machinery for land at scale.
ACREAGE MOWING & SLASHING
Land managed properly.
Managing grass on a large Peninsula property is a different proposition entirely from maintaining a residential lawn. Paddocks, buffer zones, fence lines and rough terrain require machinery built for the task, operated by people who understand how rural land behaves through each season. A standard ride-on mower is not the answer and neither is a landscaping company that occasionally brings a slasher attachment to site.
NJR Landscapes provides wide-area mowing and slashing as a core service. We operate tractor-mounted slashing equipment capable of covering large areas efficiently, handling the rough terrain, uneven ground and seasonal growth volumes that Peninsula properties regularly present.
For hobby farmers and acreage homeowners, maintaining paddocks and open areas is about more than aesthetics. Well-managed grass reduces the risk of snake habitat close to dwellings, helps control weed species before they set seed and is a legal requirement in some areas during the summer fire danger period.
We offer both scheduled maintenance programs for clients who want the certainty of regular visits, and one-off engagements for seasonal slashing or properties that need to be brought back to a manageable condition before an ongoing program begins.
Everything your property requires.
WHAT IS INCLUDED
Our acreage mowing and slashing service covers the full range of rural property grass management, from wide-area paddock slashing through to fence lines, firebreaks and scheduled ongoing programs.
Wide-Area Paddock Mowing & Slashing
Our tractor-mounted slasher covers large paddock areas quickly and efficiently, handling grass heights and volumes that smaller mowers cannot manage. We set cutting height to suit the condition of the grass and the time of year, removing excess growth cleanly and leaving a consistent surface across the entire area.
Hobby Farm & Rural Property Maintenance
Hobby farms and rural lifestyle properties have specific maintenance requirements that differ from both residential gardens and commercial agricultural operations. We understand this space well and offer maintenance programs tailored to the scale and use of your property, whether that involves one paddock or twenty hectares of varied terrain.
Fence Line & Boundary Slashing
Grass and vegetation growing along fence lines is both a maintenance issue and, in some cases, a fire risk. We slash fence lines cleanly, keeping growth away from fence posts and wires and maintaining clear boundaries across your property. Clean fence lines also make stock management easier and reduce damage to fencing from vegetation pressure over time.
Firebreak Preparation & Management
During the summer fire danger period, maintaining appropriate firebreaks is a critical responsibility for rural property owners on the Peninsula. We prepare and maintain firebreaks to required standards, working with you to ensure your property meets its obligations and is appropriately protected. We can advise on firebreak width and positioning based on your specific site and local requirements.
Scheduled Mowing Programs
The most cost-effective way to manage a large property is through a consistent scheduled program rather than reactive visits when growth has become unmanageable. We design programs around your property's specific growth patterns and your preferences, visiting at intervals that keep your land in good condition throughout the year without unnecessary or wasteful over-servicing.
Post-Slash Cleanup & Removal
After slashing, some properties require cleanup of the resulting material, particularly where heavy growth has been cut and the volume of mulched material is significant. We can undertake post-slash cleanup and removal where needed, leaving your paddocks clean and ready for use.
Rough Terrain & Uneven Ground
Peninsula rural properties rarely have perfectly flat paddocks. Undulating ground, rocky outcrops, wet low points and drainage channels all need to be navigated by machinery and operators who know what they are doing. Our tractor equipment is suited to working across uneven terrain safely and our operators are experienced in managing these conditions without damaging the land or the machinery.
One-Off & Seasonal Engagements
Not every property needs a year-round maintenance program. Some clients need a single visit before summer to bring an overgrown property back to a manageable state. Others need seasonal slashing at the beginning of the fire danger period and again in autumn. We offer flexible one-off and seasonal engagements alongside our ongoing programs.
The right machinery. The right experience.
WHY NJR LANDSCAPES
Acreage mowing and slashing requires more than the right equipment. It requires operators who understand how rural land behaves, how to manage varying terrain safely and how to deliver a consistent result across large areas efficiently. NJR Landscapes has been working across Peninsula rural properties for over a decade and brings that experience to every slashing engagement.
Because we also provide landscaping, earthworks and property maintenance services, we understand the full context of the properties we work on. That means better advice, more considered scheduling and the ability to combine slashing visits with other maintenance work where it makes sense for your property.
Tractor-mounted equipment
Our tractor-mounted slasher is built for acreage-scale work. It covers large areas efficiently, handles rough terrain and manages growth volumes that smaller mowers simply cannot.
Peninsula terrain experience
Over a decade working across Peninsula rural properties means we understand the terrain, the seasonal growth patterns and the conditions that this region produces through each part of the year.
Scheduled program flexibility
We offer both ongoing scheduled programs and one-off seasonal engagements. Programs are designed around your property's actual growth patterns rather than a fixed calendar that may not reflect conditions.
Full property management capability
As a full-service landscape and earthworks company, we can combine acreage mowing with other maintenance work, reducing the number of contractor relationships you need to manage.
Frequently asked.
COMMON QUESTIONS
-
This depends on the size of the property, grass species present and the time of year. Most Peninsula rural properties benefit from two to three slashing visits per year, typically before summer to manage fire risk and reduce summer growth, after the growing season in late autumn and potentially again in early spring when growth resumes. We assess your property and recommend an appropriate schedule based on your specific conditions.
-
Yes. Our tractor equipment is suited to working on slopes and uneven ground, within safe operational limits. We assess the terrain before quoting and advise honestly where access limitations exist. For very steep banks or confined areas, we advise on the most appropriate approach, which may involve hand cutting in specific sections alongside tractor slashing for the bulk of the area.
-
Yes, always. We visit the property, assess the area to be mowed or slashed and provide a clear written quote before any work begins. For scheduled programs, we quote the annual program with individual visit pricing so you have full visibility of ongoing costs. There are no surprises on completion.
