Irrigation Systems
Irrigation Systems
Smart, efficient irrigation designed around your property. NJR Landscapes installs systems that protect your planting investment and reduce the time and cost of garden maintenance.
IRRIGATION SYSTEMS
Water where it matters.
A well-designed irrigation system is one of the highest-return investments a Peninsula property owner can make. It protects the planting investment you have made, reduces the labour required to maintain your garden through summer and ensures water reaches the root zone of your plants efficiently rather than evaporating from surfaces or running off onto paths and driveways.
On the Mornington Peninsula, where summers can be dry and gardens often cover significant areas, an irrigation system is not a luxury. For properties with large lawns, extensive garden beds or valuable plantings, it is a practical necessity that pays for itself within a relatively short period.
At NJR Landscapes, we design irrigation systems from first principles for each property. There is no one-size-fits-all approach. Your soil type affects infiltration rates and system design. Your plant selection determines the water volumes and delivery method required. Your water source and pressure influence what is technically achievable. Your property layout determines how zones are divided and how the system is controlled.
We install systems that are built to last, using quality components from reliable suppliers. Every system we install is commissioned and tested before handover and we walk you through its operation so you understand how to manage it through each season.
Everything your irrigation project requires.
WHAT IS INCLUDED
Our retaining wall service covers the full scope of work from structural assessment and material selection through to drainage installation, construction and integrated planting.
Irrigation Design & System Planning
Every irrigation system we install begins with a site assessment and a detailed design. We map your property, identify plant zones with different water requirements, assess your water source and pressure and design a system that delivers the right volume of water to the right areas at the right time. A well-designed system wastes significantly less water and performs more reliably than one installed without proper planning.
Drip, Spray & Rotor System Installation
Different areas of your property require different delivery methods. Garden beds with established shrubs and groundcovers benefit from drip irrigation that delivers water directly to the root zone. Lawn areas require spray or rotor heads that distribute water evenly across the surface. We install the appropriate delivery method for each zone and ensure coverage is consistent with no dry spots or overlap wastage.
Smart Controller & Timer Programming
A quality irrigation controller makes the difference between a system that waters intelligently and one that operates on a fixed schedule regardless of conditions. We install and programme smart controllers that can be adjusted remotely, incorporate weather data and allow you to manage your system from your phone. We programme the initial schedule and walk you through adjustments for each season.
Water Source & Pressure Management
The performance of an irrigation system depends entirely on having adequate water pressure and volume at each emission point. We assess your supply, whether from mains water, a tank or a bore, and design the system to operate correctly within those parameters. Where pressure boosting is required, we advise on and coordinate the appropriate pump solution.
Lawn & Garden Bed Zoning
Lawns and garden beds have different water requirements and should always be on separate irrigation zones. Lawns generally require more frequent, shallower watering while established garden beds benefit from less frequent, deeper watering that encourages root depth. We design zoning that reflects these differences and allows you to manage each area independently as conditions change.
System Servicing & Repairs
Existing irrigation systems often underperform because of blocked emitters, damaged heads, leaking joins or controllers that have not been updated in years. We undertake full system audits, identifying and repairing faults and upgrading components where needed to restore reliable performance. If your system has not been serviced recently, an audit is often the fastest and most cost-effective way to improve your garden's water efficiency.
Seasonal Adjustment & Maintenance
An irrigation system programmed in spring needs to be adjusted for the different demands of summer, autumn and winter. We offer seasonal maintenance visits to check system performance, clear any blocked emitters, adjust watering schedules for the season and inspect controllers and water sources. This keeps your system working efficiently year-round and catches small issues before they become expensive problems.
Upgrades to Existing Systems
Many Peninsula properties have older irrigation systems installed during construction that have never been updated. We assess existing systems and advise on upgrade options, whether that is replacing ageing controllers with smart systems, adding zones to cover new garden areas or converting spray systems to more water-efficient drip irrigation in appropriate areas.
Designed for your property. Informed by your landscape.
WHY NJR LANDSCAPES
There is a significant difference between an irrigation system installed by someone who understands your property and one installed to a standard template. The first delivers water where your plants need it, in the volumes they require, at a frequency that suits your soil type. The second wastes water, creates dry spots and often causes more problems than it solves.
NJR Landscapes designs every irrigation system from site-specific first principles. We assess your water source, your soil, your plant selection and your property layout before recommending a system, and we install it with the same care and quality focus we bring to every other aspect of our work.
Designed from first principles
No two properties are the same and no two irrigation systems should be either. We design each system around your specific soil type, plant selection, water source and property layout.
Installed as part of a full project
Irrigation is most efficiently installed alongside new garden beds or turf. When we handle both, pipe runs are clean, coverage is optimised and the system is designed around the planting from the start.
Quality components
We specify and install components from reliable suppliers with proven performance records. A quality irrigation system installed correctly will outlast cheap components by many years.
Commissioned and handed over
Every system we install is fully tested and commissioned before handover. We programme the initial schedule and walk you through seasonal adjustments so you are confident managing the system yourself.
Frequently asked.
COMMON QUESTIONS
-
Yes, provided your tank capacity and pump setup can support the system. We design irrigation systems for a range of water sources including tanks, bores and mains supply. Where tank water is the primary source, we factor storage capacity into the system design and advise on pump specification to ensure adequate pressure at every emission point.
-
The ideal time to install a new irrigation system is before garden beds are planted and before turf is laid, as this allows pipe runs to be installed cleanly without disturbing established planting. That said, we install irrigation into existing gardens regularly and our team is experienced at working around established plants and lawn with minimal disruption.
-
A well-designed drip irrigation system can use up to 50 percent less water than overhead spray irrigation for garden beds, because water is delivered directly to the root zone with minimal evaporation. Smart controllers with weather adjustment further reduce usage by avoiding watering after rainfall or during cool periods. The exact saving depends on your current watering practices and the size of your property.
